Locking your doors may seem like an obvious security measure but it’s surprising how many people leave their doors open when they nip to the shop or visit a neighbour’s house. Even if you’re inside your house, it’s advisable to keep your doors locked as thieves can sneak in and take your property whilst you are home which can be an extremely upsetting experience. Most doors have the hinges on the inside and if yours don’t then make sure you re-hang the door or replace it so the hinges are not exposed. Burglars could easily unscrew the hinges and simply take off the door to enter your property. If it’s not possible to replace or re-hang your door then invest in some non-removable hinge pins to increase the security. This means that the only way to get in without the lock being opened from the inside is by force. These locks are visible from outside so they will act as a deterrent for any would-be burglars.   Spy holes or peep holes allow you to see who’s on the other side of the door before you open it. These devises are a great alternative (or addition) to chains as you don’t need to open your door to see outside and you can avoid people potentially forcing their way into your home once the door is opened.
